I Wayan Sujana “Suklu”

Born on February 6, 1967 in Klungkung, Bali

  • Education
  • Sekolah Tinggi Seni Indonesia (STSI) Denpasar

Wayan Suklu's art has long been dominated by his personal study of the complex relationship between men and women. Though the purpose and function of Balinese traditional art has always been religious and mystical, it would be an error to categorize him as such for Wayan Suklu, an acronym derived from his given name and place of birth Klungkung, is above all things a hybrid. Despite any mystic aura, his work belongs firmly to the contemporary rather than traditional art scene. This is clearly proven its strong personal motive content and his struggle for self identity, concepts alien to traditional schools.
